Two Ways to use Cricut Vinyl on Wood

It is no secret that I love giving gifts that I have made or personalized in some way. I have an easy DIY gift for you, that is perfect for teachers, neighbors, or a hostess. It is a Hot Cocoa crate with painted wooden spoons and snowflake ornament. I am also sharing two ways to use Cricut vinyl on wood.

I am sharing two ways to use Cricut vinyl on wood with a Hot Cocoa Crate and snowflake ornament gift.

I started by taping off the area that I wanted to paint on the spoons and covering the rest with aluminum foil to protect the spoons from any over spray.  I sprayed the mini crate and ends of the spoons with two light coats of Rust-Oleum Poppy Red paint, letting it dry in between coats.

I cut the designs on permanent vinyl using my project in Design space and weeded all of the words for the spoons and the crate. I used Transfer Tape and a scraper tool to apply the vinyl to the wood. If you have never used transfer tape, it is awesome for helping you apply your design straight and keeping your words together on your project.

The mini crate can be used to hold packets of hot chocolate or the painted wooden utensils.

I cut the "Let it Snow" design using iron-on vinyl (don't forget to mirror the image prior to cutting!) After cutting the design, I used my weeding tool to remove the excess vinyl. I preheated the Cricut EasyPress Mini to Medium heat and ironed the design onto the wood ornament. (The new mini size is perfect for small projects just like this one!) I completed the project by tying a piece of gingham checked ribbon into a bow and hot gluing it to the ornament.

I assembled the gift by placing a couple of individual packs of hot cocoa in the mini crate along with three of the spoons tied together with ribbon. You could add the snowflake ornament to the box or use it as a gift box/bag topper.
