Updated Entry with Hand Painted Wall

We had a small front entry that was boring and bland, but a few hours and a little paint fixed that! I used paint I already had on hand and shopped my house for accessories, making this update practically free!

Our entryway started out very plain and white. We changed out the light fixture last year, but it still needed some color. I started by taking the things off the walls and removing everything from the entry so I could start with a clean space.

I left the hardware on the door and taped around the handles and hinges. I used two coats of Aqua Waters by Deco Art on the door.

I pulled our straw hats out of the closet to use as art above the coat hook rack. I hung command strip hooks on the wall and used curtain clips I had on hand to hang the hats. I simply clipped the clamp to the inside of the hat, and hung by the ring.

I also wanted an accent wall in the hallway, but did not want to spend a lot of money on wallpaper. After spending some time on Pinterest, I decided to try the hand painted sponge technique. I used a Magic Eraser and cut the edges off, so the shape would not be a perfect rectangle. I poured some black paint into a paper plate and practiced on an envelope to make sure I liked the design.

I decided to just go as high as the coat rack instead of doing the whole wall, so the walls would be balanced at the top. I placed the side of the sponge into the paint, then dabbed some of the paint off, so it gave a stippled effect (shown below.)

I chose to offset my pattern every other row and eye-balled it for spacing. It does not have to be perfect...that's the fun of it! After letting the paint dry, I added a mirror that I thrifted for $13 to reflect light. I finished off the area with a colorful basket to hold hats, gloves, and scarves and a thrifted stool, I swiped from another room.
