Essentials for a Home Pedicure

I love a spa day as much as any girl, but it can get expensive going to the nail salon every month.  I try to splurge a couple of times a year and get a professional manicure and pedicure, but what is a girl to do the rest of the year?  I love wearing sandals and flip flops all summer long, so its important that my feet look pretty!

Here are my tips for giving yourself a pedicure at home:

Exfoliate the dead skin - I always start with a warm shower and scrub my feet with a pumice foot file and exfoliating cleanser.  This removes some of the dead skin from my feet.

Smooth the rough areas - Use a PedEgg or Amope Pedi Perfect Electronic Foot file to smooth all the calluses and rough patches.  The great thing about the Amope Pedi Perfect is that you can use it in the shower and it is rechargeable, which means no batteries or pesky cords to get tangled. It has a low speed and a high speed, depending on your preference. (the high speed is recommended for use on wet skin)  The ergonomic design makes it easy to hold and it does not require much pressure for it to work.
I usually focus on my big toe, heels, and side of my foot because they tend to be the roughest areas.  I hate to make you jealous, but my hubby does this for me once a week!  He gives me the full spa treatment...exfoliation, moisturizing, and massage. (Yes, I realize how lucky I am!)

Moisturize - I use two kinds of foot lotion for extra soft skin.  I love this brand from Sally Beauty Supply, and they are occasionally on sale, so I can stock up!  The Foot Balm helps with the exfoliation of the dead skin and the Foot Repair moisturizes my feet.

Wear Shea Socks - Continue the pampering after your pedicure is over by wearing Shea -infused socks to seal in the moisture.

Nail Maintenance - Cut your nails to the desired length; I use toe nail clippers, because they are a larger size then fingernail clippers.  Mine came in a pedicure kit from Bath and Body Works.  Pick a pretty spring color, put in your toe separators, and paint!  I picked the lovely lavender color from Sinful Colors, called Beverly Hills, since it reminds me of Easter Eggs.

My feel are ready for sandals now!  Do you give yourself pedicures at home?  What tips would you add?

  1. I only get manis and pedi's at the salon a few times a year and do mine at home every week. I've never heard of the Amope file and need to check that out! Thanks for sharing your tips!

  2. I have never in my LIFE had a pedicure or manicure! I'm afraid I'll love them too much but can't afford the experience! LOL - this is a great way to treat yourself in the home and probably more affordable!

    1. Awww...for real?! It is very relaxing; you should treat yourself to one at least once! This is definitely more affordable though, for the same results. If we ever get to meet, though, I am treating you to a pedicure :)

  4. Those are such great tips for an at-home pedicure. While I always find time to do my manicure, I admit to ignore my feet too much than I would like lol. These tips came at the right time :) Thanks for sharing, lovely.
