Protecting your Skin Outdoors with Smart Stuff

We spend a lot of time outdoors in the spring and summer due to my teen playing soccer and having a swimming pool in our backyard, so it is important that we protect our skin from the sun and bugs.  I also try to use products that are not toxic to myself or my family, so I was interested in trying a new natural sunscreen and insect repellent from Smart Stuff.  Smart stuff was developed by physicians and is eco-friendly, biodegradable, and not tested on animals.  When I opened the box, I noticed the pleasant smell immediately; it smelled like the Spa!

I did not always take care of my skin and I am a little embarrassed to admit that I actually have used cooking oil when tanning (yes, I was young and stupid!).  Now that I am older and have educated myself on the risks of skin cancer from sun exposure, I have stopped using tanning beds and try to always apply sunscreen before going out.  Smart Stuff is a natural mineral based sunscreen with an SPF 30 that provides UVA/ UVB BROAD SPECTRUM PROTECTION formulated without harmful chemicals for your face and body.

My sample came just in time for me to try it when I was planning on spending the day in the sun pressure washing our deck, porch, and house.  This was one of the first days I have really spent outside in a tank top this season, so I knew I would probably get sun burned.  I had my husband slather it on my shoulders, arms, and back and I applied it to my face.  Even though it contains zinc oxide, it was not thick and white like you would imagine.  I also liked that it was unscented and did not even feel oily or greasy on my face.  I am picky about the sunscreens I use on my face due to my sensitive skin.  I was out in the sun all day and only noticed sunburn in a couple of spots where my husband missed applying the sunscreen, so it did its job!

In addition to sun, we also have to worry about bugs, specifically mosquitoes, because of the swimming pool.  It seems like my husband and son attract mosquitoes, because they always end up with more bites than I do.  Now with diseases like West Nile Virus and Zika Virus, I am even more concerned about protecting my family from these pesky bugs.  I honestly hate using bug spray because of the harsh chemicals and smell.  Who wants to put that on their own body, much less their child?  Smart Stuff is a natural insect repellent that contains a unique blend of natural botanical oils and extracts with a refreshing smell.  My husband used this while working in the yard and he did not experience any bug bites.

  2. Sounds like great products! Both are so important with more sun exposure in summer and with the mosquitos and all the viruses they can carry!
