Creating a Workspace in a Small Area

Our house is a decent size, but it does not have an extra room that I could use for an an office, since I do not want to give up the guest bedroom.  So, I usually ended up working on my laptop at either the breakfast bar or the dining room table. Of course this caused a problem, because when we had guests over, I would have to pack up my laptop, mouse, planner, and other crap piled on the table. My goal was to find somewhere in the house where I could steal a few feet to have a proper work space.

I had mentioned to my husband that I was thinking about putting a small desk in the corner of the front living room, since we did not use that room often.  I had started pinning desk ideas and since I did not want to spend much money, I thought we could build one. He started plotting and ended up surprising me by building me a beautiful, retro hairpin leg desk!  We were able to customize it so it fit perfectly in the small space we had to work with!

I painted the frame of a cork board (that my hubby also made) with the same paint color I used on my mini crate that holds my Cricut tools.  I found this super cute calendar, that you can color, at Big Lots.

I picked up the metal organizer, gold Ampersand, and jar of over-sized paperclips  from TJ Maxx on clearance to decorate my desk. The magnetic holder was silver, so I used my Homeright spray shelter and Rust-Oleum spray paint in Seaside to give it a pop of color.

The three-sided tent is the perfect size to paint smaller items like lamps or smaller home decor accessories.  You can set it up on a workbench or table top, without having to worry about over-spray. I set mine up on my front porch to keep the paint fumes out of the house.

It comes in a convenient, round carrying case and folds up with a twist of the wrist.  This is definitely my new favorite DIY product...no more saving cardboard boxes!  I have already used it on several projects.

Now this fits right in with my other turquoise accessories!

  4. I am seriously loving your new desk! What a great surprise! Super cute area all around. I currently work from my dining room table, but would love to have a designated work space. Since both boys have moved back home I don't have as much space as I originally did when I purchased my home a couple of years ago.
