How To Create a Relaxing Outdoor Space

Summer is upon us, which means longer days, spending time outside, and cookouts with family and friends! Since we have a pool, we spend a lot of time on the deck so I want it to be a relaxing place.

We recently made some updates to our deck by tearing out the planter that was falling apart on the landing and adding an extra seating area.

I was super lucky to win a teak bistro set from Hayneedle on Facebook and it was the perfect fit for the area on the landing. They have giveaways all the time, so make sure you give them a follow!

I picked up this outdoor garden stool at the end of the season last year at Lowe's Foods for 75% off (it was only $15!) and have been looking forward to pulling it out all winter! It matches the blue lounge chairs perfectly and gives us another table for drinks and snacks. It can also be used for extra seating!

These festive star cut tea light lanterns were from the Target Dollar spot and match our decor, so I will leave them out all summer.

I found the lanterns at TJ Maxx last year and added flame-less candles to them for some extra lighting at night. I also filled the flower posts with assorted colorful plants.

Our painted metal patio furniture and DIY cushion covers are still holding up, so we do not need to replace them this year.

Tips for Getting your Deck Ready for Summer

  • Remove all the furniture and plants from the deck
  • Sweep or vacuum up the large debris
  • Use a pressure washer to clean the dirt and pollen from the deck and patio furniture
  • Replace the dead plants with colorful flowers
  • Add brightly colored accessories, like cushions, placemats, and candles

What is your favorite part of my deck?

  1. I like the inviting eating area and the potted plants.
We are getting a new deck in a few weeks so this article is perfect timing for me right now. Ours will be much smaller but I'm still excited about decorating the area.
