How To Paint Walls the Quick and Easy Way

We have had to do a ton of painting in our basement over the last several weeks. We used about 13 gallons of paint, including primer, wall and ceiling paint, and trim. We had 3 rooms, a hallway, and a mudroom to paint, including the ceilings! So, I needed all the help I could get with making the process quicker and easier. Today I am sharing my secret tool that helped me paint my walls the quick and easy way!

I was excited to have the opportunity to try out this paint stick from HomeRight. It saved me so much time and energy with all of the features!

Using a HomeRight EZ Twist Paint Stick

  • It is easy to assemble. You simply attach the roller head to the stick and slide on the roller cover.

  • You fill the paint stick directly from the paint can or bucket using the clip on fill tube, so there is no need for a tray and reloading the roller every few seconds. (This even works on a 5 gallon bucket...trust me, I know!)

  • The handle holds up to 18 oz of paint. I only had to reload a couple of times when painting the mudroom.
  • The pole extends to reach up to 9' feet so no need to climb a ladder or use  stool.

  • It includes a roller guard which helps keep paint from splattering everywhere. (Yes, I realize there is paint all over the floor, but it is not from this. I am messy with pouring into the small painter cups we use for cutting in and for trim.)
  • It comes apart for easy cleanup.

This tool is a life changer, especially when you have a ton of painting to do. My only complaint about this product is that it is a little heavier than a traditional paint stick, so I frequently was shifting it between arms, but that is a small tradeoff for the time it saved me and the lack of messy cleanup!

Tips on Painting Walls the Quick and Easy Way

Supplies: (click the links below for more info)

HomeRight EZ Twist Paint Stick
Small roller
2 1/2" paint brush
Paint tray
Painters tape
Clean rags
Dropcloth

Use painters tape around the ceiling, doors, windows, and baseboards.

Put down a dropcloth where you will be working. Since I painted before we laid the flooring, I did not have to worry about getting paint on the floors.

Cut in around the trim first using a small, angled brush. (I realize I painted first, then cut in, which works fine as long as you use a small roller to blend the brush strokes). Upon doing some research, paint experts suggest using a small paintbrush to cut in before rolling the rest of the area, which my hubby did in the main room.

Keep a damp rag nearby to easily wipe up spills or "oopsies" on areas you did not mean to paint. (For me, this usually means where I hit the ceiling)

Remove the painters tape before the paint is completely dry.

I made a short time lapse video showing how easy it is to paint a small room in less than 30 minutes!
