Lets take a trip down memory lane and see what I started with....this is a shot of when we first started framing the laundry room.
Now, I have a beautiful space that I don't hate doing laundry in! I honestly think this is my most favorite part of the basement renovation, only because I have never had a proper laundry "room." I have either had a laundry closet in the bathroom or a scary basement laundry area.
So without further ado....let's have a peek inside...notice the sliding barn style door we made using a slab and hardware.
In addition to the washer and dryer, (which are old and don't even match #reallife) we added a laundry sink. It is so convenient to wash out paint brushes and clean up after working in the yard. I installed a chrome towel hanger on the wall to hold a hand towel. I also utilized a wicker laundry basket that we were not using since one of the handles was broken. This makes it easy to throw dirty rags and clothing in, instead of piling them on the floor in front of the washer, like we did previously.
I had to include the pretty blogger shot with flowers and a cute towel (I scored this mermaid one from the Southern Living store at the beach.) In reality, this sink is already stained with paint and usually has several paint brushes and rollers in it.
We installed a floating shelf above the washer and hung a re-purposed cabinet above the dryer to hide all the detergent and other laundry supplies.
I also made this fun chalkboard laundry art for the wall to hold the socks that lose their mates (they always turn up later!) and this farmhouse style sign. (Tutorial coming soon!)
Some of the ways we saved money in the laundry room were:
Installed the vinyl flooring ourselves: It is not too hard...check out my tutorial!
Used leftover paint from another project: Since the room was small, we did not need an entire gallon of paint, so I shopped my stash and used a pale yellow that I had used upstairs.
Used items I already had on hand: The small laundry basket was collecting dust in the guest bedroom closet, I made the chalkboard wall art from supplies I already had, and the towel holder was part of my Haven Conference swag from Moen.
Shop second hand stores: I got the cabinet from the local Habitat ReStore for $17 and painted it, as well as replaced the molding and hardware. I picked up the floating shelf for $4 from Goodwill and gave it a few coats of paint.
Comment below and let me know your favorite part of the space!
Your laundry room looks great!I know that you have put so much time and work into it, and it has truly paid off!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I am so proud of it!
DeleteThis is such a nice space! Wow! I never thought about FINISHING off an area in the basement for a laundry room, but this is a brilliant idea! I so need to mention this to my hubby! Ha!

DeleteOh how beautiful....
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love it!
DeleteI am so jealous. There are two things that would ever excite me and need to be a must in my future first home (if that ever happens, lol) - a good kitchen and good laundry room. If they are bad, it's a pass. I'm in love with this. You did everything so amazingly! Especially that sliding door :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Ashley! This is my first REAL laundry room and I seriously love it! I don't even hate going down to do laundry (now folding and putting it away is another story!) I agree about the kitchen...thats the next major thing on our list....one day!'
