Valentine's Day is right around the corner, so I had better get crafting! I am joining the Craft & Create with Cricut Challenge with a few of my Cricut-loving blogging friends to bring you Valentine's Day inspired crafts. Each month we will bring you a different themed craft using the Cricut, so make sure you subscribe to my email so you don't miss any of these crafts!

As a reminder to celebrate love and marriage throughout the year, I am using my Cricut to personalize heart shaped wooden trays with quotes from one of my favorite movies, The Princess Bride. First off, if you have not seen this movie, put it on your watch next list! There were so many great quotes, that I had trouble picking my three favorites. OK, enough about the movie, let's get started on the craft.

Supplies needed for Heart Shaped Trays With Princess Bride Quotes

Set of 3 Wooden Trays
Cricut Cutting Machine (I have the Explore Air)
Cricut Vinyl
Transfer Tape
Strong Grip Cutting Mat

  • Open up the Design Space and start a new project
  • Insert your first text box and type in the quote
  • Repeat this step two more times
  • Center the text in the boxes and change the font to your desired one

I used one of my personal ones called Mulberry Script for the two smaller trays. I had originally used it for all three, but trying to weed the long quote got the best of me, so I re-cut it using a plain font. (Just keeping it real here!)

Measure the interior surface area of the trays and size the quotes' text boxes to fit in the center of the trays. Once you have everything the way you want it, Select All and Attach the design. This keeps the quotes where they are so you can cut them out easily. Otherwise, it pushes everything together on the mat for cutting.

Put the vinyl on the strong grip cutting mat and set the dial on your Cricut machine to Vinyl. Follow the instructions to load the mat and start the cut. Once the cut is complete, press the flashing arrow button to unload the mat.

Now is the fun part! (OK, not really. I always forget how much of a pain it is to weed small, cursive script) Before I began weeding, I cut the quotes out so I could weed them individually. This is where the hooked weeding tool comes in super handy! Once I removed all the excess vinyl from the quotes, I used transfer tape to apply the vinyl to the trays.

Transfer tape is a lifesaver because it keeps your design all together, which is super important when you have words. You simply cut a piece the size of your design and place it over the weeded vinyl. It even has a grid to help you keep the design or word straight. I used my scraper tool to press the design down really well, since it was a little stubborn letting go of the transfer tape and sticking to the wood.

Now I have a set of trays that reminds me of my favorite movie, and make me giggle a bit....especially the "Twoo luv!" These trays can be used to hold jewelry, wrapped candy, or keys.
