Spring is here (today is the first day!) and it is time to throw open the windows and let some fresh air in the house. If your windows and doors are like mine, they probably need a good cleaning to remove the layer of grime winter weather has left.
I am starting inside and cleaning the window tracks and panes using the Model 53 Steam Machine from HomeRight. It has several attachments that are perfect for cleaning your home from top to bottom. I only do this about once a year, so the tracks definitely need a deep cleaning! Now is a good time to take your curtains down and wash them as well; mine were pretty dusty.
The Steam Machine is easy to use; simply fill the tank with distilled water, turn it on, and wait for the lights to signify the steam is ready.
I am using the mini round brush attachment to scrub the dirt away in the track, then I wipe it clean with a rag. I use the squeegee attachment to steam the inside of the pane. A few of my windows had a little bit of mold right around the locks and this steamed it right off. There is something satisfying about seeing the dirt melt away!
Next I tackled the screens. Truth be told, we removed the screens when we painted the exterior of our house last fall, and they have been sitting out by the garage ever since. Now is the perfect time to clean them up and pop them back in! I laid them flat on the patio and used the mini round brush attachment to lightly scrub the screen and frame to remove the dirt and cobwebs. I gave the frame a quick rub with a rag to dry it and remove any dirt residue.
While I was working on the screens, my hubby hooked up the water hose to a bottle of Windex Outdoor Cleaner and followed the directions to wash and rinse the windows. We used a scrubber/squeegee pole to clean and dry the windows. This worked great, especially on the windows that were to high for us to reach.
It feels so good to have the windows and doors clean and ready for Spring! Next, it is time to tackle the yard! What Spring cleaning have you done lately? You can find more Spring Cleaning tips on the HomeRight DIY blog!
