Strength Has No Gender™: Women Can DIY Too

One of the reasons I started my blog was to inspire women to tackle DIY projects and home renovations. My goal is to show that girls can be fashionable and girly, while getting your hands dirty and building things! I was inspired by many of the other female DIY bloggers that I had followed for a while. When the time came for us to remodel our basement, I had confidence that I could learn to do it!

Not all heroes are a “he.” It's time to recognize courageous, strong, and resilient women and hear their stories. This Women's History Month, tell us the story of your SHEro with #StrengthHasNoGender and encourage a friend to do the same.

I (along with my husband) recently completed a massive basement renovation. We did almost everything from demoing a bathroom and kitchenette, to building walls, hanging drywall, removing tile, laying vinyl plank flooring, and hanging doors! I did not have much DIY experience before we started, but I jumped right in and got my hands dirty learning how to use a nail gun, a chop saw, hammer drill, and more. I am proud of the work we did and I can tell everyone that "I built that!"

Here is just one area of the basement we transformed. We took an unused portion of the garage area and built a full bathroom, laundry room, and closet!

All this remodeling creates lots of dust and dirt. Brawny® Paper towels offer more sheets on every roll (vs. leading national brand comparable roll and sheet size) for cleaning up any mess and leaves the windows, bathroom surfaces, and furniture sparkling and dust free!

Have you seen the new Brawny® Pick-a-Size 8 Giant Plus limited edition Strength Has No Gender™ pack at Walmart, featuring a woman? Look for the special display or find it in the paper towel aisle.

Honestly, we learned to do the work ourselves because it saved us money and we had a tight budget, but I am glad we had this experience, because now I have to confidence to tackle pretty much any home improvement project. I recently learned how to change outlets, which is not as hard or scary as you might think! In addition to remodeling, I also like to rehab old furniture pieces with paint. Between hand-me-downs and thrift store finds, our home is filled with pieces that I have made "new" again. One of my favorite transformations was my mom's china hutch that she passed along to me.

  1. You are just amazing with everything you've done in your basement. I'm so excited that you got it all done! I've purchased Brawny paper towels before and they really are nice and sturdy for cleanup. I love the photos of you holding the paper towels! :)
