DIY Painted Journal Cover

I have a weakness for pretty notebooks and usually have several on hand, for taking notes or jotting down project ideas. Recently, I had a chance to work with Oriental Trading, so I picked out a pack of small journals with a white canvas cover. I thought they would be perfect for a Bible Journaling workshop I was hosting, for those who did not have a Bible.

I had to save one for myself so I could try my hand at painting my own cover. The design I picked was from a planner cover I saw on Instagram and I personalized it with one of my favorite quotes.

Put on your creative hat, grab some paint and brushes, and let's get started!

Supplies:

White Canvas Notebooks
Assorted Acrylic paints
Mini Adhesive Foam Letters
Paintbrushes
Paper plate
Cup of water (to wash the brushes)

Using a pencil, I lightly sketched my pattern on the cover. You can also just freehand your design if you choose.

Squirt a a dollop of each color in a paper plate and start painting. I had a pack of watercolor brushes so I used a new brush for each color.

After I finished the rainbow design, I used the tip of my brush to fill in the remaining white space with gold dots.

I then used the adhesive foam letters to spell "Be Brave" in the middle of the page.

Let dry for about 30 mins and your beautiful, painted journal is ready to be used!

This project would also be perfect for a Girl's Craft Night! What would you paint on your cover?

  1. What an adorable journal! I love the use of the lettered tiles too, it's so unique! If I were to make this, I honestly don't know what I would paint. (Me and paintbrushes aren't too friendly with each other - unless it's a wall or furniture) LOL

  2. I would probably washi tape mine! :) Maybe paint it and put the transparent patterned washi tape on it.
