The Easiest Way to Whiten Your Teeth at Home + a Giveaway!

I do not have the time or money for expensive whitening treatments done at the dentist's office, so what is a girl to do?

When Smile Brilliant recently reached out and asked if I wanted to try their professional whitening kit that allows you to whiten teeth at home, I jumped at the chance! I am excited for you to follow along as I share my honest experience with you. I promise it won't turn out like Ross from Friends! (How can you forget his glow in the dark grill!)

If you follow my Instagram stories, you may have seen the first part of the process, which is making the molds. The kit comes with everything you need to whiten your teeth at home, including detailed process instructions.

How to Take Teeth Impressions

Brush and floss your teeth, so you start with a clean mouth.

Remove one of the blue base paste and one of the white catalyst paste containers from the kit. Get your stop watch ready. This is important, because the product starts to harden fairly quickly. (I learned this the hard way and I did not get a good impression on the first try. No worries, they include one extra set if you mess up!)

Mix the blue and white together until you cannot see the white, then press the paste mixture into the plastic impression tray. Press it onto the top of your mouth, making sure all of your teeth are covered for a good impression (about 2 minutes.) Don't bite or wiggle the trays. I think this was the hardest part for me! Repeat the process on your bottom teeth.

Let the molds set up, rinse and dry them, then place them in the pre-paid envelope along with your signed consent card and send them off to the lab!

Teeth Whitening Process

Once I received my custom fitted teeth whitening trays back in the mail, (the creation time takes about 2-5 business days plus shipping time) I was ready to get started! The recommended whitening time is 45 mins to 3 hours. I started out with 45 mins to an hour the first week to get used to the whitening gel and increased to an hour an a half over time.

Prior to starting the process, you should brush your teeth with water to clean any debris. Use the prepackaged syringes to squeeze a thin bead (1/3-1/4 of the syringe) of Whitening gel inside the custom fitted teeth whitening trays, then place them in your mouth. One syringe lasts about 3-4 uses.

After you use the whitening gel, remove the teeth whitening trays and rinse them out, then brush your teeth with toothpaste. Once you have dried your trays, use the prepackaged syringe filled with Desensitizing gel to place a thin string inside the trays. Place it on your teeth for 15-20 minutes. It is recommended to do this before bed since you shouldn't eat or drink for a while afterward because it can cause re-staining.

Results of the Whitening Process

I was surprised that I did not really experience much teeth sensitivity while using the gel. If you do experience gum sensitivity, you can use a little petroleum jelly or coconut oil on your gums prior to inserting the trays.

I also began to see results after just a couple of applications. The whole teeth whitening process was easy to do and was convenient since I could wear the trays at my leisure, like while watching my favorite shows before bed. You cannot even really see them, so you could easily wear them while running errands.

I used it almost every day for 3 weeks and can see a difference in the brightness and whiteness of my teeth. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who wants to whiten at home for an affordable price.
