Our guest bedroom does not get used a lot, but since I have family that lives out of town, we tend to have some overnight guests around the holidays. Since the bedroom stays closed up most of the year, this is the perfect time to air it out and spruce it up a bit for holiday house guests.
Leave an extra blanket on the bed in case your guest gets cold and a stack of towels/wash clothes for showering so they do not even have to ask for it.
Have a canister of extra toiletries, including shampoo, toothpaste, lotion, and soap; in case your guest forgot something. (This technically is not in the guest bedroom, but is important to have)
Provide a tray with magazines, glass for water, snacks, and wi-fi password to make them feel at home. Provide some room in the closet and/or the dresser for the guest to put their clothes if they are staying more than a night.
Today, I am sharing my secret weapon for sanitizing the entire bed...pillows, comfortor, and mattress, since you cannot easily wash these things. I am also sharing a few tips on how to make your guest bedroom feel like home.

Use the Homeright Steam Machine to sanitize the comforter, mattress pad, mattress, and pillows. HomeRight recently sent me their new SteamMachine Elite to try, so I am putting it to the test! It comes with 19 accessories: microfiber cleaning towel, 2 extension wands, measuring cup, funnel, straight adapter, squeegee and fabric steamer, jet nozzle, small brass brush, large brass brush, small nylon brush, large nylon brush, fabric bonnet for the fabric steamer, triangular mop head, triangular carpet glide, triangular microfiber pad, storage bag with hooks.
Simply fill the reservoir up with distilled water, turn the machine on and wait for the button to light up to signify the steamer is ready. The steam releases dirt and grime and kills up to 99% of bacteria and dust mites.
Remove the pillowcases from the pillows and sheets from the mattress before you begin and vacuum the mattress if needed. I am using the new triangle attachment with the cloth pad to clean the mattress cover and mattress. Once the Steam Machine is heated up, slowly move the attachment across the mattress, paying special attention to the crevices and stained areas.
Repeat the process for the pillows and comforter using the fabric steamer attachment with the cloth cover. Allow everything to dry before remaking the bed.
Now you are ready to welcome your holiday guests to a relaxing retreat. Just don't make it too relaxing, or they may never want to leave! (wink, wink) How do you get your guest bedroom ready for the holidays?
